Quintana Roo: Tourism fees, new transport, and rental regulations

Various developments are impacting the tourism and infrastructure sectors in Quintana Roo. Business leaders in the Riviera Maya are organizing a national front to oppose a proposed 35.8 percent increase in the Non-Resident Fee (DNR) for 2027, which would raise the cost for foreign visitors from 983 to 1,334.80 pesos.

In Cancún, the Institute of Mobility (IMOVEQROO) has launched MOBI Route 27, a 66.7-kilometer service connecting Cielo Nuevo to the Hotel Zone. The route offers modern amenities like air conditioning and USB ports, with free service available through September 27.

Regarding hospitality regulation, the municipality of Solidaridad has initiated a voluntary registration phase for short-term rental hosts. This aims to organize the market of over 16,000 digital platform listings before mandatory enforcement and sanctions begin in 2027. Additionally, Tulum is diversifying its tourism through the ‘Euforia Freedom Tulum’ sports event, expected to generate approximately 4.79 million pesos in economic impact.
