Unibol students blockade Cochabamba-Santa Cruz highway

Students from the Universidad Indígena Boliviana (Unibol) Quechua ‘Casimiro Huanca’ have initiated an indefinite blockade on the new Cochabamba-Santa Cruz highway near Chimoré. The protesters are demanding action from the Ministry of Education regarding three primary issues: the appointment of a new rector, the preservation of the university headquarters in Chimoré, and the restoration of access to the Public Management System (Sigep) to secure student food funding.

The blockade has disrupted transportation, leading the Cochabamba bus terminal to suspend departures via the new highway, forcing travelers to use the old route. Unibol rector Milton Contreras has denied claims regarding the relocation of the university headquarters and has called for evidence regarding allegations of irregularities. He also suggested that former president Evo Morales is behind the mobilization, though no evidence was provided to support this claim.
