Unicaja President José Sevilla to step down in 2027
José Sevilla, the non-executive president of Unicaja, has announced that he will not seek re-election. He intends to complete his current mandate, which is set to expire in April 2027.
Following the announcement, Unicaja has activated its formal succession plan in accordance with its corporate governance policies. The bank aims to ensure an orderly transition, with the new president expected to be named during the next Ordinary General Shareholders' Meeting in the spring of 2027. The board of directors expressed gratitude for Sevilla’s services, noting his role in providing institutional stability following the merger with Liberbank.
Sevilla, a former CEO of Bankia, assumed the presidency in early 2024. The transition process will involve the appointments and remuneration committee to filter candidates before presenting a proposal to the board and shareholders.
