Unicaja Málaga defeats La Laguna Tenerife in Costa del Sol tournament
Unicaja Málaga defeated La Laguna Tenerife 80-76 in the opening match of the XV Torneo Costa del Sol. The preseason friendly, held at the Pabellón Rubén Ruzafa, saw Unicaja overcome an early deficit to secure the win.
Willy Hernangómez was the standout performer for Unicaja, recording 16 points and 11 rebounds with a 32 efficiency rating. Despite a strong late push from La Laguna Tenerife, which narrowed the gap to 71-74 in the final minutes, a 9-0 run by Unicaja sealed the result.
La Laguna Tenerife, led by coach Jaka Lakovic, struggled with perimeter shooting, finishing the game 4/20 from three-point range. The team faced challenges including the absence of Ethan Happ due to illness and foul trouble for Vince Hunter and Aaron Doornekamp.
Unicaja has also bolstered its technical staff by adding Fede Van Lacke as an assistant coach to work under Txus Vidorreta. Meanwhile, La Laguna Tenerife prepares for upcoming high-level preseason tests against Unicaja and Real Madrid as they refine their new project.
