Unicamp researchers develop liquid bandage to accelerate healing

Researchers at the University of Campinas (Unicamp) have developed a liquid bandage technology that can potentially accelerate wound healing by up to 50%. The biocompatible technology, developed by the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, creates a transparent protective film over a lesion in approximately 45 seconds.

This innovation aims to address the discomfort and physical limitations caused by traditional bandages, such as gauze or tape, which can damage new tissue during replacement or restrict movement in joint areas like elbows and knees. In pre-clinical in vivo trials, the technology demonstrated a significant reduction in recovery time compared to conventional methods.

The technology has been exclusively licensed to Dermbio Biotech, an academic spin-off company involving the original inventors. The company is currently working through the regulatory stages required by the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) to bring the product to market.
