UNICEF delivers therapeutic food to Gombe State to combat malnutrition
UNICEF has delivered 11,580 cartons of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) to the Gombe State Government to treat children suffering from severe acute malnutrition. The consignment contains millions of sachets of specialized food designed specifically for medical nutritional intervention.
Dr. Nuzhat Rafique, Chief of the UNICEF Bauchi Field Office, noted that the Gombe State Government provided N500m in counterpart funding for 2025 nutrition interventions. This amount was matched by an equal sum through the Child Nutrition Fund to procure essential supplies.
To ensure the aid reaches intended beneficiaries, the state has established a committee to prevent the diversion or misuse of supplies. Officials emphasized that RUTF must be used strictly according to medical protocols and should not be treated as regular food. Community groups have been urged to increase public awareness regarding proper usage and the importance of completing prescribed treatment courses.
