UNICEF promotes positive parenting training to prevent child violence

UNICEF is promoting a program called ‘positive parenting with awareness’ (CC+) to provide parents and caregivers with tools to support child development through respectful methods. During a visit to Ciudad Juárez, Gabriela Polo, UNICEF Mexico's Child Protection Officer, emphasized the importance of establishing clear, positive boundaries based on human rights.

The program aims to build secure emotional bonds and prevent violence by replacing traditional disciplinary methods—such as physical punishment or emotional threats—with affective approaches. Experts warn that violent disciplinary practices can lead to long-term negative impacts on a child's physical and mental health, including increased risks of anxiety, depression, and physical ailments like diabetes or heart disease.
