Unico Skill finds Brazilian retail workers prioritize university degrees

Internal data from Unico Skill, Brazil's first provider of unlimited corporate education benefits, covering more than 150 companies and over 200,000 employees, shows that 15.3% of retail and consumer‑sector workers who are studying are enrolled in a university degree program. This proportion is more than twice the average across all sectors, which stands at 7.6%.

The profile of these learners is dominated by millennials (30‑45 years old), who make up 63.9% of the group, followed by Generation Z (24.4%) and Generation X (11.4%). Most are junior staff (30.8%), with smaller shares at mid‑level (22.7%), senior (15.4%) and management (14.8%). Interest in management and leadership courses is high, with 17.8% seeking such qualifications versus 10.4% in the broader economy. Language courses attract 18.1% of retail learners, below the overall 24.6% average, while soft‑skill and technology/data‑science courses draw 13.7% and 13.3% respectively. CMO Thaís Azevedo says the unlimited‑education benefit “functions as a tool for career ascent for those starting out.”
