Unicoin sues Uniswap Labs over trademark dispute

Unicoin, operated by TransparentBusiness Inc., has filed a lawsuit against Uniswap Labs in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York regarding a trademark dispute. Unicoin is seeking a legal declaration that its brand name does not infringe upon Uniswap’s UNI, UNISWAP, or UNICHAIN trademarks.

As part of the litigation, Unicoin is requesting the cancellation of Uniswap’s federal registration for the UNI trademark, arguing that the term is generic or descriptive. The company also seeks to defend its use of the domains unicoin.com and unicoin.org against allegations of cybersquatting.

The legal action follows several demand letters sent by Uniswap lawyers between June and August. Uniswap had accused Unicoin of trademark infringement, dilution, and unfair competition, demanding that Unicoin cease using the name and transfer its web domains. Unicoin contends that Uniswap was aware of its business operations for over two years before initiating these trademark claims.
