UniCredit Bank lifts Otthon Start mortgage rate to 3% in Hungary

From 1 June, UniCredit Bank will offer the government‑backed Otthon Start loan at an annual interest rate of 3 percent, ending its previous extra discount of 2.80 percent for first‑time home buyers. The change raises the monthly instalment on a typical 12 million‑forint, 20‑year loan from about 65,300 HUF to roughly 66,500 HUF.

Other Hungarian banks continue to provide sub‑3 percent rates: CIB Bank at 2.95 percent, Gránit Bank at 2.79 percent, MagNet Bank at 2.80 percent, and MBH Bank at 2.75 percent for privileged customers and 2.89 percent for private‑bank clients. This marks the first major bank to increase the Otthon Start rate, signalling a shift in the market for subsidised first‑home mortgages.
