Unidad de Información Financiera establishes new real estate registry regulations
The Unidad de Información Financiera (UIF) has established a new comprehensive regulatory framework for Real Estate Registries in Argentina through Resolution 93/2026. Under this resolution, these registries are classified as obligated subjects under Law 25.246.
The new regulations aim to set minimum requirements for identifying, evaluating, monitoring, and mitigating risks related to money laundering, terrorist financing, and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (LA/FT/FP). This includes all procedures involving the registration, annotation, transfer, or modification of real estate rights, as well as liens and precautionary measures.
This regulatory shift aligns Argentina with the standards of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), moving from a formalistic compliance approach to a risk-based approach. This allows authorities and designated non-financial businesses and professions to allocate resources more efficiently by understanding the probability and impact of potential financial crimes.
