Unidad Nacional demands new mining and hydrocarbon laws within 60 days

The political organization Unidad Nacional (UN), led by Samuel Doria Medina, has called on President Rodrigo Paz and the Legislative Assembly to approve new hydrocarbons and mining laws within a 60-day period. The party argues these measures are essential to attract foreign investment, generate foreign currency, and address Bolivia's ongoing economic crisis.

Regarding the energy sector, UN proposed a “short, practical, and effective” hydrocarbons law to facilitate exploration investments, specifically mentioning the potential of the Mayaya field. The party warned that without these changes, Bolivia faces an energy crisis that could force the country to import gas and lead to hyperinflation.

In the mining sector, the organization urged immediate investment to capitalize on high mineral prices to stabilize national finances. Additionally, UN demanded the urgent appointment of the Comptroller General, the President of the Central Bank of Bolivia, and the President of YPFB to combat corruption and manage the economic situation. The party warned that failure to act could lead to deeper social conflicts and risks to institutional continuity.
