Unidos MN adapts community networks for Minnesota voter mobilization
The Latino advocacy group Unidos MN is repurposing community organizing models previously used to respond to federal immigration enforcement in Minnesota for upcoming election efforts. Following the period of 'Operation Metro Surge,' where residents formed networks to monitor immigration raids and distribute food, the organization is now implementing a block-by-block and congregation-by-congregation strategy to increase voter turnout.
Through its Monarca constitutional defense campaign, Unidos MN previously trained approximately 50,000 observers to document and protest federal immigration raids. The organization is now reorienting these training sessions to focus on voter registration and election awareness, encouraging community members to engage directly with neighbors and local churches to facilitate voting plans.
