Unilever adopts biomethane to zero emissions at major Brazil factory

Unilever has transitioned its largest deodorant factory in Latin America to biomethane to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions. Located in Aguaí, São Paulo, the facility will be supplied with 1,125 cubic meters of biomethane per day through a partnership with Edge.

This initiative is expected to prevent more than 700 tons of pollutants from entering the atmosphere annually. The biomethane is sourced from Onebio, a purification plant in Paulínia that utilizes landfill gas. This move marks the fifth Unilever factory in Brazil to operate entirely on renewable energy and the sixth to eliminate production emissions. The company aims to reach carbon neutrality in scopes 1 and 2 by 2030, noting that over 85% of its total volume produced in Brazil currently utilizes clean and renewable energy.
