Unimicron to close German plant in Geldern by 2027

Taiwanese printed circuit board manufacturer Unimicron has announced the voluntary liquidation of its German subsidiary, Unimicron Germany GmbH. The company plans to phase out production at its facility in Geldern, North Rhine-Westphalia, during the first half of 2027.

The decision will result in the loss of approximately 240 jobs. Unimicron cited ongoing losses and a difficult market environment as the primary reasons for the closure, noting that despite years of financial support from the parent company in Taiwan, no economically viable solution could be found. The plant produces high-tech circuit boards for sectors including automotive suppliers.

To facilitate the wind-down, the parent company will provide 35 million euros to the German subsidiary. These funds are intended to fulfill existing orders, pay severance, and settle bank and corporate loans. While the German unit is not insolvent, the company will no longer accept new orders. Management and the works council are entering negotiations regarding a social plan and compensation.
