Unión San Felipe owner expresses concern over club performance and playoff delays
Raúl Delgado, owner of the Chilean football club Unión San Felipe, has expressed deep embarrassment regarding the team's poor sporting performance. The club has spent three consecutive years fighting to avoid relegation, a situation Delgado attributes to a combination of sporting errors and financial constraints. These financial pressures include the costs associated with women's football, legal issues involving the ANFP and television concessions, and mandatory contributions for youth football.
Delgado criticized the current squad, suggesting that some players lack respect for the club and its jersey. While he defended coach Juan José Luvera's work ethic, he placed the primary responsibility for the team's results on the players. Despite the struggles, Delgado stated he does not believe the club is currently at risk of relegation.
Additionally, Delgado warned that the Primera B promotion playoffs (Liguilla de Ascenso) could face delays. This potential postponement is linked to ongoing disciplinary complaints filed by the ANFP against San Marcos de Arica, as well as complaints involving Rangers de Talca, Curicó Unido, Deportes Santa Cruz, and Deportes Puerto Montt. Delgado urged the ANFP's Disciplinary Tribunal to act swiftly to avoid further financial and logistical uncertainty for the participating clubs.
