Unión Sindical Obrera addresses climate change as occupational risk

The Unión Sindical Obrera (USO) is holding its Occupational Health Conference on September 16 and 17, bringing together over 30 union and federation leaders. A primary focus of the event is the impact of climate change as a professional risk, specifically addressing how extreme weather phenomena, such as heatwaves and heavy rainfall (DANA), necessitate new prevention protocols.

Sara García, Secretary of Union Action and Occupational Health at USO, highlighted an alarming increase in workplace accidents, noting that the daily death toll of two people in Spanish workplace accidents is a societal failure. The conference includes presentations from prevention professionals regarding the implementation of safety measures and insights from the Spanish Labor Inspection regarding their coordination and campaigns in response to these emerging environmental risks.
