Uninsured driver Stephen Price sentenced after 100mph police chase in Powys

Stephen Price, a 33‑year‑old from Winsford, Cheshire, failed to stop for Dyfed‑Powys Police near Welshpool in March 2026. Instead of pulling into a lay‑by, he accelerated away, prompting a high‑speed pursuit on winding Powys roads. Dash‑cam footage recorded him reaching 94 mph in a 30 mph zone, crossing double white lines, overtaking dangerously and braking heavily in front of a police vehicle, forcing officers to take evasive action.

Price eventually abandoned his vehicle, fled into a field and was arrested nearby. A court convicted him of dangerous driving and driving without insurance. He received a 36‑week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, was ordered to complete 250 hours of unpaid work and was disqualified from driving for 12 months. PC Richard Bufton of the Powys Roads Policing Unit said, "No matter the reason, choosing not to stop for police and driving dangerously puts everyone at risk."
