Portugal secures Davis Cup World Group I play-off spot

The Portuguese national tennis team has secured qualification for the Davis Cup World Group I play-offs after a 3-0 victory over El Salvador in Santa Tecla. The decisive point was earned by the doubles pairing of Nuno Borges and Francisco Cabral, who defeated Marcelo Arevalo and Cesar Cruz in three sets: 6-7, 7-5, 6-2.

Earlier in the tie, Nuno Borges and Jaime Faria both secured straight-set singles victories. The final match between Henrique Rocha and Juan Carlos Fuentes Vasquez was prematurely ended due to heavy rain while Rocha was leading 6-4, 2-2. Despite the weather interruption, Portugal's victory ensures their return to the Group I competition in 2027.

In regional Portuguese football, several teams advanced in the Taça de Portugal second round, including União de Santarém, Fátima, Fazendense, and Vitória de Sernache. Meanwhile, in the Santarém District First Division, União de Tomar, Torres Novas, and Abrantes e Benfica remain among the leaders following recent matchdays.
