Union des journalistes du Tchad and National Police seek to enhance journalist safety
The Union des journalistes du Tchad (UJT) and the Chadian National Police are seeking to strengthen their collaboration to improve the safety of media professionals during their assignments.
During a meeting between UJT President Abbas Mahamoud Tahir and National Police Director General Tougoud Digo Maidé, both parties discussed revitalizing a historical partnership. The UJT aims to establish a permanent consultation framework, which would include designating focal points within both the union and the police force. This mechanism is intended to facilitate rapid communication and resolve difficulties encountered during reporting before they escalate into significant incidents.
The UJT highlighted previous successful cooperation during the COVID-19 pandemic, which helped prevent misunderstandings and tensions on the ground. Director General Maidé welcomed the initiative, noting the complementary roles of police and journalists in serving the public and the importance of protecting human life while maintaining effective communication.
