Union of Greens and Farmers fails to enter Latvia's 15th Saeima
The Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS) failed to secure seats in the 15th Saeima following the recent Latvian elections. The party received 4.401 percent of the vote, totaling 35,405 voters, which was insufficient to enter parliament or form a coalition.
Local officials expressed concern over the loss of regional representation. Gunārs Babris, deputy chairman of the Gulbene municipality council, noted that while the party saw strong results in the Gulbene region, the lack of a ZZS representative in the Saeima will make it more difficult to advocate for the municipality's development.
Political analysts and party members pointed to several factors for the decline, including a perceived loss of political identity and failure to follow through on key promises, such as the liquidation of the Society Integration Fund. Aivars Lembergs, representing 'For Latvia and Ventspils', criticized the party's inability to fulfill commitments, suggesting that radical changes and new leadership are necessary for the party to return to the parliamentary stage.
