Union of Poles in Belarus postpones congress to 2027
The Union of Poles in Belarus (ZPB) has postponed its scheduled congress from September 13, 2026, to March 2027. President Angelika Borys cited security concerns and logistical difficulties as the primary reasons for the delay, noting that the organization will continue to monitor the situation to ensure the safety of its members operating under the Lukashenko regime.
Journalist and activist Andrzej Poczobut, who recently participated in a ZPB meeting in Białystok, announced his intention to return to Belarus as early as next week. Despite having spent five years in a Belarusian prison, Poczobut stated his return is driven by his commitment to the Union's cause rather than personal motives. He emphasized the ongoing struggle of the Polish minority, including the suppression of Polish-language education and the systematic targeting of independent Polish organizations by the Belarusian authorities.
