Union Saint-Gilloise faces defender shortage after Ross Sykes injury

Defender Ross Sykes suffered a dislocated acromioclavicular joint in his shoulder during a match against Bodo/Glimt. The injury required surgery and will keep him out of action for several months while he undergoes a lengthy rehabilitation.

Union Saint‑Gilloise coach David Hubert said Sykes remains positive but the setback raises questions about the club’s transfer strategy. The team has already added defenders Nohim Chibani and Nikki Havenaar this summer, and midfielder Fedde Leysen is not listed for UEFA competition. Hubert indicated that while the club had planned for a set of central defenders, the injury could prompt an additional signing, though no decision has been made yet.
