Unione delle Terre d’Argine launches road safety campaign
The Unione delle Terre d’Argine has launched a road safety awareness campaign across the municipalities of Campogalliano, Carpi, Novi di Modena, and Soliera. The initiative, which began on August 17, utilizes blunt and direct messaging to address high-risk behaviors such as speeding, driving under the influence, distracted driving via mobile phones, and failing to maintain safe distances.
Caterina Bagni, the Mayor of Soliera and Safety Councilor, stated that the campaign aims to shock drivers into paying attention to the safety of vulnerable groups, including children, cyclists, and the elderly. The initiative follows recent local accidents that resulted in two fatalities.
In a related legal context regarding pedestrian safety, Article 2054 of the Italian Civil Code establishes a presumption of fault for drivers. Under this law, motorists are obligated to compensate for damages unless they can provide proof that they did everything possible to avoid the accident, effectively placing the burden of proof on the driver due to the inherently dangerous nature of operating a vehicle.
