Uniqlo opens new flagship store in downtown San Francisco
Japanese fashion retailer Uniqlo has reopened a brick-and-mortar location in downtown San Francisco, marking its return to the city after closing its Powell Street store in 2021. The new 20,000-square-foot flagship store is located in the former Old Navy at the corner of Market and 4th Streets, making it the company’s largest outlet on the U.S. West Coast.
The grand opening was marked by a free street festival spanning Market, Ellis, and Powell streets. The event featured more than 30 local musicians, artists, and cultural institutions. Activities included traditional Japanese taiko drum performances, art demonstrations from the Exploratorium, and pop-up soccer fields operated by Street Soccer USA. The festival also showcased large-scale art installations by Bay Area artists along Market Street.
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie noted that the new location follows the city’s momentum and recovery. The opening includes exclusive collaborations with local entities such as Muni and the Ruth Asawa School of the Arts.
