Uniqlo to raise prices and end sock bulk-purchase deals
Uniqlo, owned by Fast Retailing, has announced a series of price increases and changes to its sales model effective November 10. The retailer will raise prices on several popular items, including the ‘Kando’ jacket and pants series, due to rising raw material costs, increased logistics expenses, and the impact of the weak yen. The average selling price across products is expected to rise by approximately 4 percent.
In addition to direct price hikes, Uniqlo is discontinuing its popular bulk-purchase discounts for socks. Previously, customers could purchase sets of socks, such as four pairs of ‘50-color socks’, for 990 yen. Under the new policy, these items will be sold individually at 390 yen per pair, meaning a four-pack that once cost 990 yen will now cost 1,560 yen.
These changes follow previous adjustments made in September, which included increases to shipping fees for online orders and higher service charges for clothing alterations like hemming and sleeve adjustments. The cumulative effect of these price revisions marks a shift in the accessibility of the brand’s signature affordable and functional daily wear.
