Uniqlo uses RFID and EAS technology to prevent retail theft

Retailers like Uniqlo utilize advanced technical mechanisms to prevent asset loss, primarily through Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) systems. These systems consist of security tags attached to merchandise, security gates at exits, and deactivation devices at checkout counters.

Security gates emit a magnetic field or radio waves between two pillars. Traditional security tags include hard tags made of durable plastic with metal circuits and soft tags in the form of thin electronic labels. When an unpaid item passes through the gates, the active tag interacts with the gate's waves, causing frequency resonance or magnetic interference. This triggers the alarm and LED warnings.

Uniqlo has further advanced this process by pioneering the global application of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chip technology to enhance loss prevention.
