Uniqlo workwear shirt sparks nostalgia trend among young consumers in Beijing

A simple grey-blue workwear shirt from the Japanese fast-fashion brand Uniqlo has triggered a nostalgia-driven social media trend in mainland China. Priced at 199 yuan, the shirt features a minimalist design with two large chest pockets and no visible logos.

Young consumers on social media platforms have been styling the garment with canvas hats and crossbody bags to recreate vintage aesthetics reminiscent of mid-20th-century worker attire. This has led to a surge of foot traffic at Uniqlo stores in locations such as Beijing's Haidian District, where customers gather to try on the clothing and take photos for social media.

This phenomenon follows similar past trends, such as last year when a MUJI autumn jacket became popular for its resemblance to 1970s and 80s supply and marketing cooperative uniforms when paired with specific footwear.
