Deutsche Bahn unveils 2027 timetable amid major construction

Deutsche Bahn has announced its 2027 timetable, set to take effect on December 13, 2026. The new schedule focuses on expanding international connections and introducing more ICE Sprinter services, including faster routes between Hamburg and Munich and between Berlin and Stuttgart. Ticket prices for long-distance travel are expected to remain stable.

However, the expansion coincides with significant infrastructure challenges. Extensive construction work will lead to slower travel times and various line closures. Notable disruptions include a complete closure of the 230-kilometer section between Lehrte and Berlin through 2027, and a five-month closure of the Rosenheim-Salzburg route in early 2027. Additionally, the Tauernstrecke in Austria will face closures from February to July.

In Austria, ÖBB is expanding services on the Koralm line, adding new early morning connections between Graz and Klagenfurt. Meanwhile, Deutsche Bahn is discontinuing certain low-demand routes, such as the Intercity line between Münster and Frankfurt and a direct Saarbrücken-Munich connection.
