Unique railway systems showcase global engineering and innovation

Various unique railway systems around the world demonstrate inventive solutions to challenging terrains. In Argentina, the Tren Solar de la Quebrada serves as the first solar-powered train in South America. Operating along a 42-kilometre route through the Quebrada de Humahuaca region in the Jujuy province, the two-carriage train uses lithium batteries charged by solar panels to connect remote indigenous communities.

Other notable examples include Ecuador’s Devil’s Nose train, which utilizes a zigzag system to ascend steep slopes, and bamboo contraptions used for passenger transport on ancient tracks in Cambodia.
