Uniswap founder claims Sam Bankman-Fried bought Uniswap.com domain

Uniswap founder Hayden Adams revealed that Sam Bankman-Fried reportedly paid a seven-figure sum to acquire the Uniswap.com domain in 2021. According to Adams, the original owners sought a seven-figure price, which the Uniswap team declined, leading Bankman-Fried to purchase the domain and redirect it to a fork of the Uniswap protocol.

Adams suggested the move may have been intended to “flex / mess with” the Uniswap team. Following this acquisition, the domain was used to redirect traffic to SushiSwap, a competing decentralized exchange platform.

Uniswap Labs subsequently filed a complaint with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in May 2021. In September 2021, a WIPO panel ruled that the domain had been used in bad faith because it redirected users to a direct competitor. As a result, the domain was ordered to be transferred to Uniswap Labs at no cost. The domain currently redirects to the official Uniswap application.
