Palermo football club pulls out of Barbera stadium upgrade
Palermo Football Club announced it will withdraw from the renovation of the Renzo Barbera stadium, citing recent technical‑accounting modifications introduced by the municipal offices that it says radically alter the original proposal. The club stated that the altered text makes the project impossible to continue and that the withdrawal will affect its pledged extra contribution of €30 million.
The stadium upgrade, valued at more than €300 million, is central to Palermo’s bid to host matches of Euro 2032. The municipal council’s deliberation on the project is on the agenda and must be approved before the July 31 deadline for the candidacy documentation. Mayor Roberto Lagalla expressed confidence that cooperation with the club will continue despite the setback.
