United Airlines updates loyalty program benefits and status matches

United Airlines has implemented several updates and promotions regarding its MileagePlus loyalty program. Recent changes to the program incentivize credit and debit cardholders by offering three additional miles per dollar earned on paid flights. Additionally, cardholders receive a 10% discount on award flights, which increases to 15% for elite cardholders. Data indicates that United cardholders and elite members have significantly greater access to Polaris business-class saver awards, particularly on routes between North America and Europe.

Furthermore, United is offering a specialized elite status match promotion for residents of the Chicago metro area. Through September 30, eligible participants can receive 120 days of matched elite status by taking a qualifying United flight into or out of Chicago O’Hare Airport. To extend this status through the 2026 program year, participants must complete two qualifying flights and earn the required Premier Qualifying Points (PQP). Notably, for this specific Chicago-based challenge, PQP earned through credit card spending counts toward the status requirements.
