United Airlines Boeing 767 Hits Lighting Pole and Truck During Newark Landing
United Airlines Flight 169, a Boeing 767‑400 that departed Venice, was landing at Newark Liberty International Airport on Sunday when it struck a lighting pole and a bakery truck on the nearby access road. The aircraft sustained only minor damage and came to a safe stop on the runway.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board opened an investigation. The airline has suspended the flight crew while the incident is examined and has been instructed to hand over the cockpit voice recorder and flight‑data recorder. No crew members or passengers were injured. The truck driver suffered only minor injuries and was released from the hospital. Airport staff quickly cleared the runway and resumed normal operations.
