United Airlines flight crew injured by severe turbulence

Four flight attendants were injured on United Airlines Flight 1157 after the aircraft encountered severe turbulence during its descent from Hawaii to Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday night.

Flight data indicates the Boeing 777 plunged nearly 3,700 feet in one minute before dropping from 22,800 feet to 14,000 feet over the course of approximately two and a half minutes. While no passengers were injured, at least two crew members sustained neck and back injuries, and one attendant was hospitalized.

Passengers reported hearing a loud bang and experiencing sudden drops that caused significant fear among those on board. The pilot described the turbulence as brief, suggesting it may have been wake turbulence, though the exact cause remains unclear. The aircraft landed safely at LAX and remained on the tarmac for at least 30 minutes following the incident.
