United Airlines flight diversion leads to 20-hour passenger ordeal
A United Airlines flight traveling from Edinburgh, Scotland, to Chicago was diverted to Green Bay, Wisconsin, due to storms, resulting in a nearly 20-hour delay for passengers.
According to passenger Heather Fields, the aircraft remained on the ground for four hours after landing. The flight was ultimately unable to continue to O'Hare International Airport because the crew had exceeded their FAA-mandated duty time.
Following the announcement, passengers were instructed to leave the plane and waited on the airport tarmac for approximately five hours. Fields reported that communication from the airline was poor and that passengers faced shortages of food and toilet paper. Additionally, passengers were unable to be processed by customs agents upon exiting the aircraft because no agents were available.
