United Airlines pilot broadcasts profanities to passengers

More than 250 passengers on a United Airlines flight from Cape Town, South Africa, to Washington, D.C., were subjected to several minutes of vulgar language after a pilot accidentally left his microphone active.

The incident occurred on flight UA 2023 during the descent toward Dulles International Airport. After providing standard landing information, the pilot attempted to use the intercom to contact cabin crew. When he received no response, he began shouting profanities at the staff, unaware that his voice was broadcasting to the entire aircraft.

Witnesses reported that the outburst lasted for approximately seven minutes. While cabin crew members attempted to contact the cockpit to alert the pilots to the error, they were initially unsuccessful. Passengers described the situation as highly embarrassing and confusing.
