United Airlines plans return to JFK airport by 2027
United Airlines is working toward a return to New York Kennedy Airport (JFK), with a target date set for 2027. CEO Scott Kirby has characterized the airline's previous decision to exit the airport as a significant strategic error.
United originally reduced its JFK presence in late 2015, opting to consolidate operations at its Newark Liberty Airport (EWR) hub due to reported losses and intense competition from American and Delta. While the airline attempted a brief return to JFK in 2021 using Boeing 767-300ER aircraft, it withdrew again in 2022 after failing to secure permanent slots and scale service effectively.
