United Airlines pursues strategic expansion and infrastructure upgrades
United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby is focusing on aggressive competition and strategic expansion to navigate rising industry costs and infrastructure limitations. Kirby has previously suggested the possibility of megamergers with major carriers like Delta Air Lines and American Airlines, though such moves face antitrust scrutiny. Additionally, United aims to expand its presence at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport through a partnership with JetBlue Airways.
In Seattle, United Airlines is proceeding with plans to build a new two-story United Club. The project, estimated at $21 million, involves moving operations from Concourse A to Concourse B. The Port Commission has authorized a $15.5 million reimbursement agreement to facilitate the construction. The new 7,181-square-foot lounge is expected to enter service in late 2027 or early 2028 and will feature upgraded amenities including a full-size kitchen, family rooms, and enhanced architectural finishes.
