United Airlines to launch Airbus A321 XLR transatlantic service in Dublin

United Airlines has selected Dublin as the inaugural destination for its new Airbus A321 XLR aircraft, marking a strategic move to enhance its transatlantic service. The A321 XLR is a long-range, fuel-efficient narrow-body aircraft capable of covering distances up to 8,700 kilometers, allowing the airline to serve routes that were previously difficult to manage with standard aircraft.

This deployment is part of a significant route expansion for United Airlines. Starting in 2026 and 2027, the airline plans to connect various secondary airports and hubs to destinations that were previously considered unfeasible due to lower passenger volumes. Planned destinations include locations such as Luxembourg, Ljubljana, Olbia, Catania, Ibiza, Valencia, Marseille, and Terceira, as well as connections between Washington DC and Toulouse, and San Francisco and Okinawa.
