United and Delta Ban Humanoid Robots from Passenger Cabins

United Airlines announced a ban on all humanoid and animal‑like robots from both the cabin and checked baggage, effective July 23. The carrier said the restriction is driven by safety concerns over lithium‑ion batteries that can pose fire risks on aircraft. Small robot toys may still be permitted if they comply with normal size, weight and battery rules.

Delta Air Lines issued a similar policy, temporarily prohibiting any robot designed to resemble a human or animal from the cabin or cargo hold. The move follows Southwest Airlines’ earlier ban after incidents involving passenger‑boarded robots such as Stewie and Bebop. Both carriers will continue to evaluate how to transport robotic devices safely, while ordinary luggage rules remain unchanged.
