United Arab Emirates hits record oil production in September
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) achieved record-breaking oil production in September, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). Abu Dhabi increased its total oil production, including condensates, by 400,000 barrels per day to reach a total of 5.3 million barrels per day. Crude oil production specifically rose to over 4.4 million barrels per day, approaching the nation's maximum capacity and surpassing previous highs set in June and August.
This surge is attributed to the UAE's departure from OPEC production limits in May and its ability to maintain flows through the Strait of Hormuz. The country utilized a fleet of tankers to conduct discrete ship-to-ship transfers to navigate regional tensions. While Gulf producer flows reached 75% of pre-war levels in September, the IEA notes that the sustainability of this recovery remains uncertain due to potential regional escalations and attacks on tankers.
