United Arab Emirates pledges $10m for Ebola response in Africa

The United Arab Emirates has pledged $10 million to support international efforts to combat the Ebola outbreak in Africa and to strengthen healthcare systems in affected regions. The funding, approved by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, will be distributed through the UAE Aid Agency.

The announcement was made during an international meeting convened by the United States on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. Dr Tareq Ahmed Al Ameri, Chairman of the UAE Aid Agency, stated that the contribution aims to support prevention, detection, and patient care in coordination with international and regional organizations.

To date, the UAE has delivered over 150 tonnes of aid and medical supplies to approximately 280 health facilities. These supplies include protective equipment, infection-control materials, food, and shelter materials. The intervention comes as the Democratic Republic of the Congo continues to face challenges regarding the spread of the disease.
