United Bank for Africa inducts 374 new graduates

United Bank for Africa (UBA) has inducted 374 young professionals into its workforce following the completion of Cohort 21 of its Graduate Management Accelerator Programme (GMAP). The cohort includes 223 women and 151 men, with 345 graduates from Nigeria and 29 from subsidiaries in Guinea, Tanzania, Kenya, Mozambique, Uganda, Zambia, and Ivory Coast.

During the ceremony in Lagos, UBA Group Chairman Tony Elumelu emphasized that superior customer service remains the bank’s primary differentiator in an increasingly commoditized technological landscape.

During a question-and-answer session, graduate trainee Deborah Moses highlighted challenges regarding customer documentation. She noted that customers often face frustration when they arrive at branches without the specific documents required to resolve recurring issues. To address this, she proposed the implementation of a ‘UBA journey guide’—a digital resource provided during onboarding to inform customers of the necessary steps and documentation for various banking requests.
