United Democratic Alliance sets ward-level election dates in Kenya
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has announced a staggered schedule for ward-level grassroots elections across ten Kenyan counties. According to a notice from the party’s Electoral and Nomination Dispute Resolution Committee (ENDRC), the elections are set for October 16, 17, and 31, 2026.
Samburu County is scheduled to vote on October 16. Tana River, Vihiga, Nakuru, Marsabit, and Isiolo counties will hold elections on October 17. The final phase on October 31 will include Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Bomet counties.
The party’s recruitment drive has seen massive participation, with officials reporting that the pool of candidates has grown from an initial 310,651 to over 500,000. Under the UDA framework, members elect 20-person committees at polling centres to represent various sectors, including farmers, businesses, professionals, and youth, who then form an electoral college to select ward congress officials.
Candidates must lodge any disputes regarding election results within 24 hours. Additionally, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission requires parties to submit membership lists and primary candidate details by March 16, 2027, with all internal nomination disputes resolved by May 9, 2027.
