United Democratic Party demands voter data from The Gambia's IEC

The United Democratic Party (UDP) in The Gambia has called on the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to release detailed voter registration data ahead of the 2026 presidential election. The opposition party claims that the IEC has failed to respond to multiple formal requests for statistics and datasets regarding the 2026 Supplementary Voter Registration Exercise.

The UDP highlighted a significant discrepancy between the IEC’s announced total of 212,095 registered voters and a dataset provided to the party containing 183,163 names. This difference of 28,932 voters represents approximately 13.6 percent of the announced figure. While the UDP stated it is not presenting this gap as evidence of malpractice, it argued that such a large discrepancy requires a verifiable explanation.

The party is seeking a reconciliation of figures, including the number of voters registered before the removal of duplicates, the number of records deleted, and the final verified total. They have requested breakdowns by administrative area, constituency, registration center, gender, and age to independently assess the accuracy of the register.
