United Democratic Party intensifies campaign for The Gambia's 2026 election
The United Democratic Party (UDP) is intensifying its campaign efforts ahead of The Gambia’s presidential election scheduled for December 2026. Party leader Ousainu Darboe has criticized the administration of President Adama Barrow, specifically citing the rising cost of living and inadequate public health facilities as major failures of the current government.
To support the campaign, the UDP is conducting a diaspora fundraising tour. The Spain chapter recently raised D4 million dalasis, following similar efforts in England and Basel. Brikama Area Council Chairman Yankuba Darboe has been active in Europe, meeting with Gambian communities in Berlin to encourage diaspora investment in local development and political engagement.
Domestically, UDP representatives are mobilizing voters in the West Coast Region. Alagie S. Darboe, the party’s minority leader in the National Assembly, asserted that Brikama will be a decisive factor in securing a victory for Ousainu Darboe. During visits to local communities, Ousainu Darboe has called on women and young voters to lead the push for political and economic renewal.
