United Engine Corporation delivers first PD-8 engines for Yakovlev SJ-100

United Engine Corporation (UEC) has commenced the delivery of the first production-series PD-8 engines for the Russian Yakovlev SJ-100 regional jet. Developed by UEC-Saturn, the engines have received their type certificate following extensive testing, including 6,590 hours of operation and simulations for bird strikes, hail, and ice formation.

The PD-8 engine provides nearly 8 tonnes of thrust and is also designed to power the Beriev Be-200 amphibious aircraft. This development is a central component of Russia’s strategy to reduce reliance on Western aviation suppliers by replacing engines, avionics, and auxiliary systems with domestically produced technology.

Testing for the SJ-100 is ongoing, with upcoming trials scheduled in the Khabarovsk region and northern Russia to evaluate performance in extreme conditions. Commercial deliveries of the aircraft are projected to begin late this year or early next year.
