United Internet announces 800 job cuts at Ionos and 1&1 Versatel

United Internet has announced a strategic transformation program involving significant job cuts across its subsidiaries, Ionos and 1&1 Versatel. The restructuring aims to enhance competitiveness and future growth by increasing the use of artificial intelligence and expanding cloud business services.

Ionos will reduce its workforce from 3,800 to approximately 3,350 full-time employees, a reduction of 450 positions. These cuts will be implemented through voluntary programs and local requirements, split between domestic and international locations. The company expects to save 30 million euros annually starting in 2027, with restructuring costs totaling 35 million euros in 2026.

1&1 Versatel will reduce its staff from 1,350 to around 1,000 full-time employees, cutting 350 positions. This process will involve age-related part-time schemes and voluntary programs to simplify leadership structures and hierarchy levels. The company anticipates annual savings of 25 million euros starting in 2028, with 60 million euros in restructuring costs expected in 2026.

Overall, United Internet expects one-time restructuring expenses of approximately 95 million euros during the 2026 fiscal year.
