UK to share secret missile technology to enable Ukraine domestic production
During his first overseas visit to Kyiv, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced that the United Kingdom will authorize the release of classified technical information to support Ukraine's domestic production of long-range cruise missiles. This decision allows the defense company MBDA to share data regarding British-made components of the SCALP/Storm Shadow missile system, a Franco-British technology.
The initiative aims to help Ukraine establish its own production lines, complementing similar efforts by France. While the transfer is a significant step toward strengthening Ukraine's defense-production capacity, experts note that domestic manufacturing of these complex weapons could take months or years to become fully operational. The UK has previously committed 25 billion pounds in total aid to Ukraine, with 16 billion pounds specifically designated for military assistance.
The announcement drew a sharp response from the Kremlin. Russian spokesperson Dmitry Peskov accused the United Kingdom of “participating in the war” and “pouring fuel on the fire.” Additionally, Kremlin advisor Andrei Fedorov warned of potential retaliatory measures, including cyberattacks against the UK.
